Relay ("us", "we", or "our") operates relay.build (the "Site"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information we receive from users of the Site.
We use your Personal Information for improving the Site, and for marketing and promotional purposes. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
While using our Site, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include but is not limited to your name, emails, addresses, age, and date of birth ("Personal Information").
When you submit the "Let's talk" form (whether from the pop-up dialog or the /lets-talk page), the information you type — your name, email, company, and message — is sent to Formspree, a third-party form-processing service. Formspree receives the submission, emails it to our team, and keeps a stored copy; it is a data processor acting on our behalf. Your email address becomes the reply-to address on the email we receive, so our reply goes straight to you.
We also record, in your browser's sessionStorage, where you came from at the start of your visit: the external site that referred you (if any), any utm_ campaign parameters in the URL, and the page you landed on. This is captured once, on your first page view of the visit, and is cleared when you close the tab. If you submit the form, it's sent to Formspree along with the form fields above, so we can tell which channels (search, a directory listing, an AI assistant, a referral) are actually generating inquiries. The same source details are also attached to the analytics events described under "Analytics" below, whether or not you submit a form.
When a form submission goes through, we also send your email address, and only your email address, to PostHog, our analytics provider. This links your inquiry to your earlier browsing on the Site, so we can see which pages led you to get in touch. Your name, company, and message are never sent to PostHog.
We comply with the New York Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security Act (SHIELD Act). As part of our compliance efforts, we maintain reasonable safeguards to protect the security, confidentiality, and integrity of personal information collected through our Site. These safeguards include encryption, access controls, and other industry-standard security measures.
Like many site operators, we collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Site ("Log Data").
This Log Data may include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol ("IP") address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other statistics.
The Site is hosted on Vercel, and we use Vercel Web Analytics to understand traffic to the Site. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies to identify visitors (it generates an anonymous hash from each request instead) and does not collect information that could identify or track you across other websites or apps. Page-view data is aggregated and automatically discarded after 24 hours. We also use Vercel Speed Insights to measure how quickly pages load for visitors; like Web Analytics, it doesn't use cookies and doesn't collect anything that could identify you.
We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how people find and use the Site. PostHog processes this data on our behalf, and because we use PostHog's US cloud, the data is processed and stored in the United States. When PostHog is running, it records:
PostHog tells your visits apart with a random identifier stored in a first-party cookie (named ph_ followed by our project key and _posthog, which lasts up to a year) and in your browser's localStorage. Until you submit a form, that identifier isn't tied to your name or email. If you do submit one, your email address is linked to it as described above. We don't sell this data or share it with advertising networks.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as an opt-out: PostHog doesn't load at all, so no PostHog cookie is set, nothing is recorded, and nothing is sent to PostHog. The Site works the same either way, including the contact form. Vercel Web Analytics still counts the page view, without cookies, as described above.
We may use your Personal Information to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials, and other information that pertains to our services. You may opt-out of receiving any, or all, of these communications from us by following the unsubscribe link or instructions provided in any email we send.
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. The Site stores the following in your browser:
Vercel Web Analytics doesn't use cookies. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings, or turn on Global Privacy Control, and the Site will still work.
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Users have the right to request deletion of their personal information, subject to any legal obligations to retain certain data.
In the event of a data breach involving personal information, we will notify affected individuals and any applicable regulatory authorities in accordance with the requirements of the New York SHIELD Act.
Users have the right to access, correct, or delete their personal information. To exercise these rights or inquire about the handling of personal information, please contact us using the information provided below.
We may share personal information with third-party service providers or business partners who assist us in operating our website or providing services to our users. We require these third parties to maintain the confidentiality and security of personal information and to use it only for the purpose of providing the services we have requested. For example, when you submit a form on our Site, the information you provide is processed by Formspree (our form-delivery provider) and Vercel (our hosting provider) so we can receive and respond to your inquiry. Usage data from the Site, and the email address of anyone who submits a form, is processed by PostHog (our analytics provider), as described under "Analytics" above.
Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can delete the information.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at parker@relay.build.
